Here is the next installment of the Chivalric virtues series, this time we are talking about generosity. Maybe in a much broader or deeper sense than what the word is usually assosiated with, but I think this is a core value in chivalry as well as in Christian life….

Please let me know what you think.

Pascifist as I am, I won’t consider myself very knightly, but I truly, truly loved this, Patrik.

As I certainly love the points you bring up here, I would also like to add a sort of “generosity of mind”… To actually listen to others, what they say (without presumptions), to lend your mind to go the extra mile of puttning yourself in somebody else’s shoes and to be generous with our heart – to believe the best about people and be generous with our trust.

Now, I might be way out of bounds here, and in that case, just forget what I say and know that I was truly blessed by this video.

All the best!

Mark

amen brother

i agree – this is a huge foundational virtue.

A thought – that when we give freely of ourselves – particularly when it is undeserved, that is when WE change. This giving changes us, and only then can we change the world. How else can we bring justice to an injust world?

“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” – Jesus (luke 3:35.)

shakespeare meditated on this too!

Polonius: “I shall treat each man just as he deserves.”
Hamlet: “Nay, sir, MUCH BETTER, for if each man received as he deserves, then who would ‘scape whipping?”

Now that’s “largesse”!
